How many times have you heard someone tell you that they are going to lose weight? How many times have you said it? If you are like I was, this is a vicious cycle. Every year you tell yourself, “I am going to lose weight”. Isn’t it funny how every year you fail to lose that weight and keep it off?
Everywhere you look today; there is some “lose weight quick” diet. It amazes me how these diets get so much media attention and how few objective reviews of these diets are provided. Each time a diet becomes popular, it is suddenly “the best diet available”. I have yet to see one that is truly healthy and effective over a long period of time (like the rest of your life). How many of these diets are reviewed over a long period of time? Do the people really keep the weight off? The answer, in most cases, is NO!
I hope that one day people will realize that the ONLY way to truly lose weight and keep it off is to change your lifestyle. The fact is that overweight people don’t eat right and they don’t exercise. I’m sure there are a few exceptions to this because of medical conditions but let’s not kid ourselves, most people are just plain lazy when it comes to diet and exercise.
Let’s face it folks. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to eat right and exercise! NO EXCEPTIONS. It won’t be easy and it won’t always be fun, but we have to suck it up and get with the program. So what does “diet and exercise” mean? It means eating right and participating in vigorous exercise at least 3 times a week.
Eating Right: Eating right consists of the proper balance of carbs and proteins. NOT LOW CARB HIGH PROTEIN. There are so many good cook books available that follow this guideline. One in particular is “Eating for Life” by Bill Phillips. You can get the recipes FREE by going to his web site (www.eatingforlife.com)
Exercise: This doesn’t mean walking or leisurely using the stationary bike/treadmill. This means pushing yourself to your limits to get the maximum results. DON’T BE LAZY. If you are very overweight, check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine. Once you are cleared, get a gym membership. Most memberships include a personal trainer, even if it is for a limited time. You can use your trainer to establish a routine.
The bottom line is that you need to GET OFF YOUR BUTT and exercise. Change your eating habits and stick to it. It’s not easy and you won’t always like it but it will save your life.
FITNESS IS A LIFESTYLE NOT A DIET!!!!!
