It’s the time of the year where exercising has become necessary albeit weathering with the extreme temperatures. It's that time of year. Extreme temperatures can be related to heat or cold but either makes exercising and Beach Cruiser riding uncomfortable.
It's the time of year when you decide that you were a freakin idiot for going outside!
If you are going to ride your Beach Cruiser in the winter be sure to take multiple levels of clothing. Your body temperature will rise as you exercise and holding all the perspiration and sweat against your body is not good when the temperature outside is 30 degrees. For that reason you should have a Beach Cruiser that has a basket. There are many models of baskets but for stability and the ability to carry all those layers of clothes a Wald Basket seems to work best. These baskets have long extended arms which will attach to your nut wheels thereby providing added strength to your Beach Cruiser Baskets ability to hold things. Similarly, when you ride your Beach Cruiser in the winter months it is important to bring water with you. This will allow you to stay hydrated during your Beach Cruisers ride so that exhaustion will not overtake you. Another reason for a Beach Cruiser Basket. Remember just because it is cold outside does not mean you should disregard regular bicycle safety such as planning your trip, having a light on your Beach Cruiser, tail end reflectors on your Beach Cruiser and observing all traffic laws.
Appositive temperatures in the summer may have you riding your Beach Cruiser in 100 degree weather with 30% humidity. This does not mean you should take your shirt off or disregard other bicycle safety laws in your area. Summer riding of a Beach Cruiser mandates that you bring a white shirt (white will help you stay cooler in the summer heat and if you are going to ride for any length of time wear a long sleeve white t-shirt so as to avoid sun burn) along with water, knowledge of the path you are taking, bicycle light, gloves and other safety features.

In both the summer and winter Beach Cruiser riding months you should also carry a basic bicycle repair kit. This kit should include tire repair patches and glue, bicycle wrench and a small hand air pump. Some Beach Cruiser riders like to use the slime canisters but they explode from time to time and I want no part of that.
The main thing to remember when you jump on your beach cruiser is that bicycling is a sport. Treat it like a sport and come prepared. Never misjudge the weather elements and dress according to the weather needs. If you are starting your ride in the late afternoon plan on riding after it is dark and include equipment for a night ride such as mosquito repellant and flashing lights (In addition to regular head and tail lights I have installed flashing spoke lights which has really helped cars identify me as a bike rider – they can be bought at Bike Parts by clicking here.
