What you need to know about Beach Cruisers and Bicycles

A Beach Cruiser is a vehicle that has two wheels and is propelled by pedals. Beach Cruisers followed the early evolution of the bicycle and were considered a luxury vehicle for the rich when first introduced. Three wheel vehicles had been used for utilitarian purposes but beach cruisers were lavishly decadent with their large oversized seats, baskets and extended handlebars. Gradually several designs and models evolved that included duck tail fenders, 144 spoke beach cruisers and more other lavish attributes. Beach Cruisers are an ideal means of transport--non-polluting, quiet, small, easy to maneuver, light and inexpensive. They can be used by anyone, from a 8-year-old to a 87 -year-old. Riding a beach cruiser is not only a pleasurable experience but a exercise also. However, there are a few disadvantages of Beach Cruisers: they cannot be used for great distances and they also tire out the rider after sometime. This is the reason for the evolution of the engine-powered Beach Cruiser or motor Beach Cruiser. Bicycles the mother of Beach Cruisers are still being used as a chief means of transport in most countries. There are also some jobs where employees depend on bicycles, like postal services, police services or retail delivery. Along these lines a recent study indicated that postal workers given an option in bicycle mail delivery types overwhelming chose Beach Cruisers.

A Beach Cruiser works based on pedal power and historically has been dependent on the human pushing of the pedal wheels in a circular motion to drive the Beach Cruisers wheels. The pedals are connected to the wheels by an iron chain. A steering rod helps to keep the bike balanced. The main parts in a Beach Cruiser are the frame, chain, hub, spokes the drive train, steering rod, the seat/seats, post, handlebars, fenders, wheels/tires, brakes, and optional gears.

Although Bicycles can be categorized into many kinds based on the function (mountain bikes, racing bikes, messenger bikes, touring bikes, utility bikes, and Randonneu or Audax bikes), number of riders (tandem/twin, triplet bikes and multi bikes), construction (penny farthing, upright, recumbent, folding, moulton, exercise), gearing (internal hub gearing, shaft-driven Beach Cruisers, single-speed/fixed gear, retro-direct, and Derailleur gear Bicycles), sport (track, time trial, cyclo-cross, BMX, Triathlon etc), means of propulsion (pedal, rowing, hand-cranked, motorized, shaft-driven, flywheel etc), and several other types, freight bikes, cycle rickshaws, clown bikes, velomobiles/bicycle cars, hybrid bikes, art bikes, unicycle and so on the Beach Cruiser is in a class all by itself. Indeed, the beach cruiser can often be seen in several of the afore mentioned classes such as multi speed beach cruisers or utility beach cruisers.
