Don't Close Your Eyes Or Let Deaf Ears Fall Upon You

Deaf dog training has more to do with human behavior than dog behavior. You see as humans we listen rarely but talk a lot. We want our point of view heard while animals and particularly dogs listen much more than humans. Want to get ahead in life than pretend to be a Deaf Dog in Training. Dogs ability to listen allows them to fend off preteders, develop relationships quicker and most of all successfully run in packs. Want to know how bad humans suck at getting along then just look at the Iraq war. Something that was suppose to free people has instead turned into people hating each other and fighting one another like wild animals. Dogs on the other hand would have had a ferouis fight followed by years of getting along. After all dogs are really deaf when it comes to running from the pack. Their social accord with one another is impeciable and Deaf Dogs are the best.

Now having had a little fun with logic the reality is that dogs mostly loose their hearing in their later years much like people. Because dogs are dependent on their hearing that loss is critical to their continuing well being. Dogs use their hearing in crossing streets, identifying enemies and responding to your call. To supplement the loss of your dogs hearing teach them to rely on their other senses but particularly their sight. To contrast people when crossing the street are dependent on their sight to look for cars. Appositively, dogs listen and rarely look both ways. Teach your dog this skill much like your mother taught you.

To teach a deaf dog to come to you when calling them is to teach a dog to use one of its other senses, smell. Start with teaching a dog to scent (can be foundon how to teach a dog to hunt which is another link on this sight) and then once the dog has been taught to scent teach the dog to come to your scent. You can also teach the dog to come to the smell of a certain perfume or rotten meat if you prefer. But use the dogs scent to know when to come.

Finally, a dog will start to go blind as it grows older. Likewise, suppleent the use of the sense of sight with one of the other senses. Remember dogs are incredible when it comes to use of all kinds of scenses that people don't have. Use those scense in teaching a deaf dog to hear with one of the other scenses.
